Heher, AP business writersOctober 21, 2005NEW YORK - Pfizer Inc., the world's biggest drug company, said Thursday its third-quarter earnings plunged 52 percent and a sluggish sales outlook for key drugs like pain reliever Celebrex and Viagra prompted it to cut profit estimates for this year and withdraw guidance beyond that.

Its shares slumped to their lowest level in almost a decade.

Profits at competitor Eli Lilly & Co.

rose 5 percent in the third quarter, but it said sales of its top-selling product, the anti-psychotic drug Zyprexa, rose only 1 percent.

looks to rebuild Neir Eshel Princetonian Senior Writer Photo by Thomas Chen (Expand Photo)The chemistry department, housed in Frick Laboratory for nearly 80 years, will soon move to a new facility further down Washington Road.

Princeton ranked 68th in the country in federal research expenditures, 26th among private universities and 6th among Ivies.

After almost 80 years in the same dark, labyrinthine building, the chemistry department will soon relocate from Frick to a state-of-the-art facility further down Washington Road.

Slated to open within five years, the building will offer 30 faculty members a flexible, energy-efficient environment to conduct groundbreaking research.

The problem is, there may not be enough scientists to fill that space.

In the past year, five senior faculty members have left the chemistry department for positions at other universities, and several others have announced plans to retire.

Together, these professors drew almost $12 million of the $38 million in active grants awarded to the department, according to last year's University Research Board report.
