Chemo drug too expensive for PBS, says committee

A chemotherapy drug that can prolong survival for mesothelioma victims was too expensive to be listed under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC) said today. Committee chairman Professor Lloyd Sansom said the drug,
"But unfortunately, at the price that has been requested by the sponsor, it does not fall into the acceptable cost-effectiveness criteria."
