Classifieds Eli Lilly & Co. company information Star and news services report January 26, 2005 Eli Lilly and Co. reported a fourth-quarter loss of $2.4 million and broke even on per-share earnings, primarily due to one-time restructuring costs and taxes on overseas earnings. Excluding about $990 million in those and other one-time charges, the Indianapolis-based pharmaceutical giant reported net income of $814.3 million, or 75 cents a share, for the three months ending Dec. 31, beating predictions of analysts surveyed by Thomson First Call by one cent. Sales rose 5 percent, boosted by attention-deficit drug Strattera and cancer treatment Gemzar. The net loss of $2.4 million, Lilly's first in seven years, was less than a cent a share and compared with net income of $747.2 million, or 69 cents, a year earlier. The recent quarter included $465 million in tax costs on profits repatriated under a one-year tax holiday, the Indianapolis-based company said in a statement today.
