26 (Bloomberg) - Eli Lilly & Co., the maker of the Zyprexa schizophrenia drug, had a $2.4 million fourth-quarter loss after spending money to close offices, cut jobs and redesign a plant.

The net loss was breakeven on a per-share basis and compared with net income of $747.2 million, or 69 cents, a year earlier, the Indianapolis-based company said in a statement today.

The recent quarter included $465 million in tax costs to return $8 billion in overseas profits to the U.S.

Revenue rose 5 percent because newer medicines such as the Chief Executive Officer Sidney Taurel is paring sales offices, cutting 1,000 jobs and spending money to develop a sleeping pill to make Lilly less dependent on Zyprexa.
